Syracuse (11-5, 3-1 ACC) is coming off a disappointing loss in their opening game of the 2024 ACC lacrosse tournament against the Duke Blue Devils. Duke won 18-13, getting payback for the Orange’s 10-4 victory earlier in the season.
Joey Spallina and Jake Stevens each scored four goals in the outing to pace the ‘Cuse offense, but it wasn’t enough to overcome three runs of four-or-more Duke goals during the game. Duke jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first five minutes of game time, quickly creating space that the Orange couldn’t make up.
The Orange will be hoping the loss marks little more than a blip as they start their run on the NCAA Tournament. The Orange is hoping to recapture its glory days under John Desko, where they were the national champion six times in 11 seasons. This is the first time in three seasons under Gary Gait that Syracuse has reached the national tournament.
