Campania, De Luca: “Don Patriciello does not have a monopoly on the fight against the Camorra”

The governor does not allow himself to be intimidated by the campaign of exploitation orchestrated by the center right

The president of the Campania Region Vincenzo De Luca he does not allow himself to be influenced by the statements released in the last few hours by the men of the center right and by the prime minister herself Giorgio Meloni who exploited an ironic joke from the governor “on the VIPs chosen by Meloni to promote the premiership”

The president of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca

Commenting on the guests of the conference organized by the Prime Minister to illustrate her institutional reform project, De Luca proclaimed to the followers: “It was a moving moment to see Meloni presenting her project to well-known constitutionalists, among whom I particularly noticed Iva Zanicchi, Pupo. There was also a priest from our area, known as the Pippo Baudo of the northern area of Naples, with its fringe. These are truly unmissable moments“.

The first to respond was the prime minister, who accused the governor of having mocked Don Patriciello “a priest, a man who tries to fight the Camorra and give answers to respectable families where those like De Luca were unable to do so, or did not want to do so”. In doing so, added Meloni, De Luca “gives a scary signal”.

The governor, however, did not bat an eyelid, issuing a very detailed note, replying blow for blow

In relation to the fuss raised by the Hon. Meloni, who evidently has nothing serious to talk about, it is useful to point out that my joke does not concern Don Patriciello, but the incorrectness of those who exploited for political propaganda purposes – when he presented the hypothesis of the premiership – public figures who they have nothing to do with constitutional reforms – highlights the president of the Campania Region. I would expect that the Prime Minister, as well as the slackers, was concerned with releasing our development and cohesion funds that have been blocked for a year, and thus allowing the construction of works and the creation of jobs. We consider this the most effective response to criminal powers“.

De Luca focuses again on the positions taken by the parish priest of Caivano. “As for Don Patriciello, let it be said with the utmost respect, but with absolute and definitive clarity, that we appreciate his battles, but that he does not have a monopoly on the fight against the Camorra. There are countless citizens, workers, churchmen and young people who are daily and silently engaged in this battle – underlines De Luca – And that some of us have been fighting this battle for fifty years, and perhaps having given up any escort. For the rest, we are engaged today in important and positive work, also with the fundamental contribution of the religious world, on the issues of the family and the related regional law on which we are working. And we are fighting, alone, to unlock the crucial resources to open construction sites and create jobs. I would suggest to Don Patriciello, in a friendly way, to have a little more irony, especially when it is not presented on the level of institutional relations relating to the protection of our territory – concludes De Luca – but on the improper level of political politics”.

Some questions arise spontaneously: shouldn’t a parish priest maintain a minimum of autonomy from parties, governments and institutions? Isn’t the presence of the Caivano priest at a meeting promoted by the centre-right anomalous, embarrassing? We quietly allow ourselves to highlight a confusion of roles and functions.
