«It is not with criticism and blame that a country moves forward, but with hope and love. Like Giulia”

It’s the first time that Gino Cecchettin it is in Turin. Or rather, it’s for the first time at Turin Book Fair as the perpetrator after the killing of his daughter Giulia from the ex Filippo Turetta. Dear Giuliapublished by Rizzoli, is the book that recounts curious and nostalgic aspects of the life of the young woman who died at the age of 22, two days before her graduation discussion.

On stage, dad Gino gives in to emotion twice: when he tells some of Giulia’s gags at home, such as arriving at the table at robot pace. And when he says that he regrets having chosen to work hard and make his children feel good, with the regret of not being able to be with Giulia today.

It only takes a few moments but you can see and feel the shining eyes. Cecchettin refers to the patriarchy as “that word that cannot be said” and deliberately decides not to comment on the media attacks that have followed on him and his daughter Elena for having exposed themselves on the case: “It is not with criticism and blame that one carries out a country but with a message of hope and love. A bit like what Giulia did.”

Cecchettin also makes a quick comment on the murderer Turetta: «Giulia has never been afraid in her life. She feared that Filippo would hurt himself, she didn’t understand the seriousness of the matter.” And she concludes the project for the autumn, coinciding with the anniversary of the young woman’s femicide: «The idea is to create a foundation, it will be called the Giulia Foundation. The objective is to help associations that are already active in the fight against gender violence and to provide training in schools.”
