It has arrived, awaited, thenorthern Lights also on the Castelli Romani, on Rome and on the whole of Central Italy.

The natural phenomenon, typical of the polar areas, is also affecting our areas due to the strong geomagnetic storm underway on the sun. The phenomenon should last for at least a week.

The photo was taken by a reader friend of ours who immortalized the phenomenon from Monte Porzio Catonetowards the capital.

As is known, thenorthern Lights is caused by particles of the ionosphere which are struck and excited by protons and electrons, electrically charged particles, which normally constitute the solar wind and which precisely on occasions like these become more intense.

The phenomenon, although exceptional (such an intense solar geomagnetic storm has not been recorded since 2003) is absolutely natural and fully falls within the normality of solar activity.

Potentially and locally, problems can be found in the GPS network and in the electrical networks as they are, fundamentally, extraordinary electrical currents that flow on our planet.
