Quarrata, fibromalgia: a purple bench in Piazza della Vittoria

QUARRATA – The Municipality of Quarrata joins the awareness campaign “Let’s shed light on fibromyalgia” promoted by the United-Italy Fibromyalgia Committee odv.

For this reason, on Sunday 12 May the Town Hall in Piazza della Vittoria will be illuminated by a purple light (the color chosen for the awareness campaign), to demonstrate the closeness and support of the entire city of Quarrata for people affected by this syndrome.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain syndrome that causes a variety of symptoms: widespread skeletal muscle pain, fatigue, stiffness, paresthesia and heartburn, as well as limited performance of normal activities, chronic fatigue, gastro-intestinal problems and other problems. The United-Italy Fibromyalgia Committee promotes activities aimed at informing and obtaining institutional recognition of Fibromyalgia Syndrome, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and Electrosensitivity among chronic and disabling diseases.

In fact, patients affected by these pathologies are currently not entitled to the services of the National Health Service, as neither fibromyalgia nor the other diseases mentioned are included in the essential levels of assistance (LEA).

The municipal administration, already in 2023, had joined the campaign by permanently installing a purple bench right in Piazza della Vittoria.
