MASSA – “We intend to respond to the Progressive Pole of Massa, the political grouping of the city council, which has
stated in the newspaper La Nazione that the Local Police would have sufficient numbers to manage the security of the city”. This is how the National Association of Local Police, Upli, responds to the statements of the left-wing political force.
“This statement – explains Upli – ignores current legislation, first and foremost law 65/1986 “Framework law” which establishes that Municipalities must provide (art. 7 c. 2 p. 1) ‘…the numerical contingent of employees to the service, according to criteria of functionality and economy, in relation to the number of inhabitants of the municipality and the population flows, the extension and morphology of the territory, the socio-economic characteristics of the local community;…’, in the case of Massa suffice it think how the population quadruples in the summer period. The latest Tuscan regional law (LR 11/2020) established the minimum number of local police operators at a ratio of one per thousand inhabitants and, considering that the Municipality of Massa until 2022 had approximately 70,000 inhabitants, 70 employees, plus the manager, commander and officers, therefore there should be at least 90 employees as there were in 1995 – continues the union, explaining the current data – Today there are 59 employees plus the commander and 3 officers, in short we are decidedly understaffed and these individuals they are spread over 3 rounds. Also consider that newly hired staff are obliged to follow a 6-month initial training course, so they are not immediately available, furthermore the working conditions are very harsh: unlike their colleagues in the administrative and technical sectors they work 7 days a week , 365 days a year, during all holidays, outside in all weather conditions, taking significant risks. We believe that the city is truly safe – asks Upli – with all the crimes and administrative offenses that are recorded in the statistics and that are seen every day, that road traffic, with the road accidents that occur, the wild stops, do not require further supervision , we are convinced that waste abandonment does not deserve more attention, do we not want more presence in front of schools to supervise our children and inside to educate them about legality and road safety?
It is truly disconcerting – the national association comments – that the Progressive Pole asks to reduce the presence of the local police while throughout Italy they ask and try in every way to increase their presence, perhaps Massa is a happy island where everything happens in legality or do you not want legality?”.
