Modica, local police checks in shops: 5 traders fined

New checks by the local police of Modica, in particular, regarding commerce, hygienic-sanitary conditions and the occupation of public land. The “Annona and Commerce” section carried out checks on Friday evening in seven commercial establishments in the city centre. Five sanctions were imposed for illegal occupation of public land, pursuant to art. 20 of the Highway Code. The owners had occupied the public area, with chairs and tables, illegally. In some cases they had expanded the authorized area, in others they did not have municipal authorization. The fine amounts to 173 euros.
In Viale Medaglie d’Oro, during checks in two businesses managed by foreigners, there were tense moments as the owners were supported by some compatriots in their protest. In the case, a patrol from the Police Station also intervened to support the “Locale” agents.
During the same services, some tourist guides operating in Modica were checked, following a report from a trade organization regarding the presence of illegal operators. In this case, the people checked were in compliance.
