Sparks after the confrontation: “Zattini inadmissible on the past”

The debate between the city’s mayoral candidates on Thursday evening at the Chamber of Commerce, promoted by Cna Forlì, left consequences, especially in the centre-left which stands united against the statement that the current mayor and candidate for re-election, Gian Luca Zattini , he said at the end of the evening “5 years are not enough to remedy 50 years of left-wing disasters”.

According to Graziano Rinaldini, mayoral candidate for the centre-left, Zattini would thus have “revealed his nature, not as a civic citizen, but rather as an administrator aligned with right-right positions”, because his declarations would be inadmissible “from a mayor who says he wanting to be, in words, everyone’s mayor and which, in fact, is not”.

In support of his thesis Rinaldini brings the list of supposed ‘disasters’ produced by the centre-left administrations that governed Forlì for 50 years: the Ridracoli dam, the University, the Morgagni-Pierantoni hospital, the ring road, the Technological Pole University, the San Domenico Museums, the Urban Park, the welfare system and school services. “The mayor’s statements – continues Rinaldini – denote a lack of good faith and respect for the far-sighted administrators who have taken turns at the helm of Forlì. I think first of all of Franco Rusticali, one of the most enlightened and loved, who left us a legacy of fundamental works, not only for the city, but for the entire territory”. In comparison with what was left by previous mayors, Rinaldini then lists what, in his opinion, Zattini has left: “The isolation of Forlì in the Romagna context and a claim to self-sufficiency that emerged in all its evidence and gravity in the days of the flood”.

The Dem territorial secretary, Gessica Allegni, and the secretary of the Forlì Democratic Party, Michele Valli, also intervene on the issue. “We want to be very clear – they write in their note – with the mayor: we know well that we are in an election campaign, but we cannot tolerate the history and memory of this city and its great administrators being offended”, taking as an example the works already indicated by Rinaldini.

The Mud Victims Committee, through the voice of its president Alessandra Bucchi, reacts instead to the lack of an answer, again from Zattini, to a specific question on the possibility for citizens to participate, in the future, in the reconstruction processes, material and economic, of the flooded neighborhoods: “The response was totally lacking. The idea of community of the current mayor of Forlì – we then read in the press note – can be proclaimed with emphasis and emotion, as long as the flood victims are not named. And little It obviously matters if among the flood victims there are artisans, traders, businesses of various kinds and importance, in short, a significant portion of the city’s productive fabric”.

The president then reports Zattini’s words, released on 1 May, “We listened to everyone because I can’t think that there is anyone who doesn’t recognize themselves in the municipal house”, wondering if the listening had taken place through reading of the press releases, “given the physical absence from the specific commission” and after “an almost year-long wait” for a discussion table that “never happened”.
