The court of Lamezia Terme where the Alibante trial is underway has ordered the Unical professor Vittorio Palermo to remain compulsory.
LAMEZIA TERME – After prison and house arrest, a Unical researcher was ordered to stay. The court of Lamezia Terme – criminal section – has, in fact, replaced the measure of house arrest currently applied to the prof. Vittorio Palermo with that of the obligation to reside in the municipality of Cosenza. Palermo, 66, from Cosenza, involved in the Alibante investigation, spent 17 months in prison and another 19 under house arrest.
The Unical Palermo professor is among the defendants in the trial underway before the Lamezia court resulting from the “Alibante” investigation. Taken between Lamezia, Nocera Terinese and Falerna, in May 2021 against 41 people held responsible, in various capacities, for mafia-type association, external competition in mafia-type association, political-mafia electoral exchange, corruption, extortion, consummated and attempted, fictitious registration of assets, disclosure of official secrets and bid rigging.
In particular, Palermo, Unical entrepreneur and researcher (defended by lawyers Guido Contestabile, Mario Auriemma, court of Naples and Francesco Giovinazzo, court of Palmi), would have been a (historical) figurehead of the boss Carmelo Bagalà. «Through some alleged fictitious titles of accommodation complexes in Nocera Terinese and Falerna».
Among the complaints also an invoice for non-existent operations – in the form of extortion according to the investigators – since a Megarredi associate (prosecution witness and considered offended party) was forced to issue it in favor of Palermo (manager of the Eurolido hotel in Falerna ), an invoice of 12,225.00 euros. «Since the investigation has still only been partially carried out – the professor’s lawyers say.
