Redevelopment of market in Piazza Cavour in Viareggio: the start of work could now be imminent. The Municipality, in fact, is now only waiting for the approval of the Superintendency design changes which provide for the transfer of the 23 commercial kiosks present in Piazza Santa Maria, an ancient market area. An operation that will also involve a modification to the Peffor any additional costs that are being examined by a certifier to whom the administrator has turned, bringing to his attention the accounts presented by the private individual who won the tender for the project financing.

To explain the stages of the path that aims to redevelop the area in heart of Viareggio – a process which suffered approximately two years of delays due to the dispute that had arisen with some activities and in which the municipal administration prevailed – was the mayor Giorgio Del Ghingaro.

The topic should have been discussed in the city council, explained the mayor, in a video posted on Facebook, as requested by councilor Nicoletti from the Bonaceto list, but “the latter then said he didn’t want to discuss it and wanted to postpone the issue . We – says Del Ghingaro in this regard – had put it on the agenda of today’s city council. I am embarrassed by the councilor’s behavior, because everything is absolutely transparent here.”

“The theme of the future of Piazza Cavour market It is a topic that is very close to our hearts and on which we have been working for some time. We lost two years due to the appeals of some traders in the area. The private individual who won the tender for the project financing had to stop waiting for the outcome of the disputes which proved us right and as a Municipality we moved forward. As is known, the Superintendence rejected 23 kiosks that are currently inside the market because they did not have authorization to be there. We didn’t want to remove the kiosks but move them. The alternative solution is to renovate the area and move the activities present in the kiosks in Piazza Santa Maria. We are waiting for the green light from the Superintendence. Furthermore, this modification to the original project also led to economic changes, we also had to review the PEF. The certifier to whom we submitted the issue will send us the opinion in the next 10 days and with the approval we will start the work”.
