The mayoral candidate of the centre-right civic and party Gianni Rolando visited the Foce Monumental Cemetery, which has been in a state of decay for too long now.
“Visiting the area – highlights Gianni Rolando – one notices its great importance from a historical, social and cultural point of view where, among other things, notable personalities stand out, including numerous Russians and Englishmen who stayed in Sanremo as an intermediate stop returning from India and therefore witnesses of the international past of our city, a very popular destination in the years of the belle époque. This type of widespread degradation – underlines Rolando – where we find areas that are unusable and require major interventions, must end: I believe that the municipality must take extraordinary action and the resources should also be obtained with new concessions, especially in the unusable area bordering the cycle path. It is important to identify a contact person who takes care of all the bureaucratic aspects, especially the relationship with the superintendence.
By the way – continues the centre-right mayoral candidate – in the 1970s an investigation and subsequent classification of the tombs was carried out: this could be the administrative starting point. The Foce Monumental Cemetery – concludes Rolando – has all it takes to be a tourist/cultural attraction, in fact the inclusion of the cemetery in the European circuit of monumental cemeteries is of fundamental importance in order to draw on targeted funding, in addition to enhancement of the works of art present inside.”
