MASSA – «I would like to express my sincere thanks to all those who participated in the event in memory of Aldo Moro, which took place today (yesterday, Thursday 9 May, ed.). Thanks to the institutions and the Military Authorities present as well as to the students of the 2nd M of the Palma Institute, the school director Ilaria Zolesi, to Professor Biancala who introduced the ceremony with the “silence” played by the high school student making this event even more thrilling”. Thus begins the statement from Ivo Zaccagna, group leader in the city council of the Massa is another thing list, after the commemoration of Aldo Moro which took place in the square dedicated to him on the anniversary of the discovery of his lifeless body in Rome.
«Each of those present brought their own contribution by remembering the life and political legacy of Aldo Moro, a prominent figure in Italian history, whose sacrifice left an indelible mark on the national conscience. We said goodbye with a specific commitment: to find a worthy accommodation in the square that bears the name of Aldo Moro and, for next year, to organize an event (already in the works) with speakers of great importance at a national level. Below I leave my speech. I would like to report what was written by the then president of the Christian Democrats Aldo Moro for Easter 1977, in the newspaper “Il Giorno”: “It is not important that we think the same things, that we imagine and hope for the same identical destiny, but it is instead extraordinarily important that, with everyone’s faith in their own original contribution to the salvation of man and the world, everyone has their own free breathing space, everyone has their own intangible space in which to live their own experience of renewal and truth, all connected to each other to each other in the common acceptance of essential reasons of freedom, respect and dialogue”. It is a synthesis of the thoughts of a true politician, a man, a father to remember and talk about.”
«Today more than ever this thought is incredibly relevant, because the world in which we live is still entangled in it. May 9th is a commemorative date and here, in this square, we remember the sacrifice of Aldo Moro but we also remember the men of his escort, of the State Police and of the Carabinieri, who lost their lives 55 days earlier on March 16th in that vile ambush. Also today, May 9th, we also remember another fate that intersected with that of Aldo Moro, that of the journalist Peppino Impastato, who died at the hands of the mafia. Today more than ever, let’s start from this place, from us present here, a unanimous chorus and a clear and direct message, let’s fight every form of oppression and defend freedom because only by fighting will we guarantee a better future for those who come after us.”
