With Ilaria Maffei at the seminar “Protagonists! The new Italian generations talk about 2024″ in Milan

Legnano – La City of Legnanoas an example of good practices for the valorization of diversity, was invited to speak at “Protagonists! The new Italian generations tell their story in 2024“, The national seminar of the National Coordination of New Italian Generations (CoNNGI) scheduled in Milan on 9 and 10 May.

The CoNNGI is a network of over 40 associations of young people with a migratory background (generally second generation immigrants) active throughout Italy, founded in 2017 as part of a path promoted by General Directorate of Immigration and the integration policies of Ministry of Labor and Social Policies.

Representing the Municipality of Legnano, in the panel dedicated to “Italian culture as a common heritage”, the councilor for the inclusive community Ilaria Maffei, which illustrated the administration’s commitment to inclusive citizenship; a work that resulted in the establishment of Consult new citizens (16 people for over a dozen nationalities), in the provision of a new and more adequate headquarters for the CPIA (the institution that allows foreigners to obtain compulsory school certification), in the strengthening of the cultural mediation service in schools, in library projects (Favole del mondo, the “Sconfinare” reading group and the collection of books in the original language “Mamma lingua”) and in the process begun last year with the 3 October Committee which involves local schools . Last, but not least, is having enhanced the oath for citizenship, which had always been held in the offices, by hosting it in the Council room; a transformation from a pure bureaucratic fulfillment to an opportunity to visit the town hall and meet the administrators. The panel, which was held at MUDEC, also saw interventions by Paolo Masini, President of the MEI National Museum of Italian Emigration, by Simona Guglielmi, Sociologist of the State University of Milan and by Angelo Lucio Rossi, Headmaster of IC Statale Alda Merini from Milan.

The seminar was promoted by CoNNGI and by the territorial association of the Associazione Jasmine network in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies, with the patronage of the ISMU Foundation, and with the support of the International Organization for Migration – IOM, Compagnia di San Paolo and Sviluppo Lavoro Italia.
