The state police of Pordenone have reported a social health worker, resident in the province, serving in the obstetrics-gynecology department, in a state of freedom for the crime of aggravated theft, caught stealing 50 euros inside a room of the department of the Pordenone hospital.
In recent months, numerous reports have been received of episodes of theft of cash and precious jewels committed against both patients and their families within the obstetrics-gynecology department of the “Santa Maria degli Angeli”.
In particular, the thefts were always committed with the same methods: taking advantage of the temporary absence from the patient’s room or while the mother was busy giving birth, unknown persons entered the room and took the sums of money contained inside the bags or jackets. left temporarily unattended inside the room.
Pordenone, operator caught stealing inside the gynecology department
At least eight confirmed thefts committed between March 2023 and February 2024 in which a total of over 1,200 euros in cash and precious jewelery worth 2,000 euros were stolen.
In consideration of the seriousness of the facts, the flying squad requested and obtained authorization from the public prosecutor Andrea Del Missier to install cameras both inside the corridor of the department and inside a hospital room specifically identified in order to identify the perpetrators of the thefts.
In particular, in agreement with the judicial authority, on Thursday 9 May, a special service was set up during which the hospitalization of a policewoman from the flying squad was simulated inside the aforementioned room equipped with cameras while another staff dedicated themselves to viewing the images taken by the installed camera in real time.
In particular, around 3pm the agent left the room pretending to have to undergo a medical examination and left his wallet inside the bedside drawer, with the sum of 100 euros in banknotes of various denominations previously photocopied inside.
Shortly afterwards, a social health worker accessed the room where the agent was falsely hospitalized and took a 50 euro banknote contained inside the purse.
The woman was immediately blocked by personnel from the flying squad and from the previously stationed hospital police station who proceeded with a personal search of the woman who was found in possession of the previously stolen banknote.
The healthcare worker was taken to the police station and released on bail for the crime of aggravated theft.
Further investigations are underway to verify his responsibility for the other thefts that occurred in recent months.
