POTENZA – Friday 10 May and Saturday 11 May are the two days dedicated to the presentation of the lists for the next local elections in June. Nominations for mayor and city councilor may be indicated from 8am to 8pm on May 10th and from 8am to midday on May 11th. There are 52 Lucanian municipalities called to renew their governing bodies. Among these is the regional capital, Potenza, the only municipality with a population exceeding 15 thousand inhabitants and, therefore, the only one for which a run-off is scheduled if no mayoral candidate has obtained an absolute majority of valid votes in the first round . The run-off is scheduled for Sunday 23 and Monday 24 June.
There are 10 municipalities affected by the electoral round in province of Matera42 those in the province of Potenza. Among these Scanzano Jonico, Avigliano, Castelluccio Inferiore and Noepoli are police stations. In total they are called to vote 200,606 voters.
Electoral legislation provides for the guarantee of gender representation on the lists. In particular, in municipalities with a population between 5 thousand and 15 thousand inhabitants and more than 15 thousand inhabitants, neither sex can be represented in excess of two thirds of the candidates. Furthermore, the Constitutional Court in 2022 declared the illegitimacy of the art. 71 of Legislative Decree 267/2000, c. 3 bis in the part which does not provide for the exclusion of lists that do not ensure the presence of both sexes in municipalities with a population of less than 5 thousand inhabitants.
For municipalities with a population of up to 15 thousand inhabitants, the candidate for the office of mayor and the administrative program must be indicated with the list of candidates for the municipal council. In those with a population greater than 15 thousand inhabitants, multiple lists can connect to each other presenting the same candidate for mayor with the same program.
