The final day of the district service “Reading: an open window on the world” will take place on Saturday 11 May in Matera at 10.00 in the Aula Magna of the IIS “GB Pentasuglia”. Instrument of peace, solidarity and respect” promoted by the Matera Città dei Sassi Lions Club. The date was chosen, not by chance, to coincide with the Book Fair which takes place in Turin, to also create in the city of Matera a moment of sharing and valorisation of reading, especially among young people.

In fact, the initiative has the aim of bringing young people closer to the world of books and is part of the list of activities promoted by Lions to support the cultural growth of the community, the territory and its cultural facilities, such as the Provincial Library of Matera, at risk of closure.

Through the establishment of a “reading group”, the students involved shared the reading of a novel donated to all the participants by the Matera Città dei Sassi Lions Club, which they discussed, discussing the themes, contents and characters and giving life to final papers, in the form of videos, reflections and book-trailers.

After the greetings of Professor Antonio Epifania, head teacher of the IIS “GB Pentasuglia”, the lawyer Lucia Elsa Maffei, president of the Lions Club Matera Città dei Sassi, will illustrate the purpose of the service. Afterwards, Professor Camilla De Ruggieri, teacher of Literature, will present the reading group project. The debate with the students and the testimony of the Panorama.it journalist, Dr. Rosita Stella Brienza, are planned.

At the end of the day, there will be an award ceremony with books and volumes donated by Libreria Di Giulio, the Matera Citta dei Sassi Lions Club and the Provincial Library, of the best works chosen by a jury composed of the lawyer Lucia Elsa Maffei, Dr. Massimo Bianco of the Matera Book Club and by Dr. Antonella Nota, Director of the Provincial Library “T. Stigliani of Matera.

The event will be moderated by the journalist, Dr Rossella Montemurro.
