The evening-event for the awarding of the Terzani Prize seals an initiative born from the initiative of near / far, in agreement with the family of the Florentine journalist and writer, in the aftermath of his death, twenty years ago (28 July 2004). Once again it will be an intense and varied evening, which will offer the opportunity to meet the winner of the 2024 edition in person, Sally Hayden will be the protagonist of a dialogue with Annalisa Camilli, investigative journalist, and Angela Terzani Staude, president of the Jury, will deliver personally the prize to the winner. A video greeting to the public of the Award will come from the Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei, who on the occasion of the 20th anniversary, receives a Special Mention from the Jury for his memoir “A Thousand Years of Joys and Sorrows”, published in Italy by Feltrinelli.

The public will be told about the Terzani Prize in the interview by the journalist Marco Del Corona, former Beijing correspondent for the Corriere della Sera and member of the Terzani Prize Jury. «Sally Hayden – they explained the reasons – has given us a rigorous reportage, and at the same time of very powerful human truth, which presents us with the detailed picture of what is happening beyond the Mediterranean in the concentration camps of the Third Millennium, forcing us to question ourselves on one humanitarian scandal that sees us responsible as European citizens and as Italians.” «I am extremely honored – declared Sally Hayden – to be the winner of the 2024 Terzani Prize. My reportage, over the years in which I worked on the book, focused on highlighting the abuses that are carried out in our name and on make the voices of vulnerable people who suffer in those places heard. It has shown that we are involved in crimes against humanity, and I hope that this Award will bring more people in Italy to know about this tragic reality. I dedicate this Award to all those who risked their lives to send information from Libya and North Africa.”
