Cremona Evening – “Arte Revelata” with CrArt and Turismo APS: from 12 May the routes to discover hidden treasures in the Cathedral and in the church of San Pietro al Po.

For spring 2024 CrArT – Cremona Arte And APS tourism proposes the project “Art revealed“, a path, a journey, in art to be revealed in two important monuments of the city: the Cathedral And San Pietro al Po.

Revealing means “removing the veil” to make known something that has remained hidden, both in terms of place and meaning, or complex in the reading of the contents. With this starting point, CrArT will accompany visitors on a journey of discovery of works and environments that are little known, not very accessible or have a complex iconology.

Particularly in Cathedral will be revealed, going up, the south women’s galleryto understand the genesis and evolution of the structure of the church, also opening an unprecedented point of view on part of the frescoes in the central naveand the choir, which faces the large organ, which conceals the presence of one of the capitals of the origins of the sacred place of 1107. Between architecture and styles, between sculpture and communication, entrusted to medieval bestiaries, we come to understand something more about the fascinating, but partly still mysterious, Cathedral dedicated to the Virgin of the Assumption.

In the structure of the church of San Pietro al Po there are two places that will open to be revealed: the refectory and the sacristy. In the first context the large dominates fresco by Bernardino Gatti known as Soiaro which will be read as a book that tells a story of faith, doctrine, theology but also a part of the life of the 16th century city linked to coexistence, which will then become an open contrast, with the reformed churches, in particular Lutheranism and Calvinism. In the sacristy instead, the veil will be “removed” from a bold perspective vision of Elijah who is kidnapped to heaven on Antonio Campi’s chariot of fire.

“Revealed Art” is a project by CrArT – Cremona Arte e Turismo APS with the patronage and collaboration of Diocese of Cremona, Parish of San Pietro al Po And Cremona Underground APS.
