The “Autonomia da Fiumicino” Association participated on 8 May in the work of the “Commission on the General Operation and Transparency of the Administration of the Municipality of Fiumicino”: work aimed mainly at focusing on the authorization procedures for cutting down trees on private land and public and verification of subsequent controls by the Municipality of Fiumicino.
The Vice President of the “Autonomia da Fiumicino” Association, Dina Signoriello, present in the Council Room together with a delegation of Members of the Association itself – at a certain point during the proceedings requested to be able to speak to highlight the content of a letter which our Association had previously sent to the Municipality and the Higher Control Bodies, in relation to the felling of 200 trees – including centuries-old pines – and also wanting to underline the worsening of the general conditions in which the Monumental Pine Forest and the Lecce Forest of Fregene find themselves , due to the poor care to which they have been and are subjected by the Municipal Council: and this actually concerns all the green spaces of Fregene…
Well, as soon as we received the consent to speak from the President of the Transparency Commission, an “unseemly institutional accident” occurred, since some participants of the majority, in various capacities in the Commission, abandoned the work of the Commission with outcry, not giving reasons, in a climate which in the meantime had overheated precisely as a result of those abandonments and that impediment to speaking. In fact it was not possible to explain what our. Vice President would have liked.
In these cases, the subsequent apologies – which we dutifully record – from some of the same institutional political figures who had previously left the room are of little use. Our Association intends to highlight the anomalous behavior that took place in the Council Chamber of the Municipality of Fiumicino, in contempt of the fundamental rules of democracy, as if it were intended to place a “gag” on the right to speak of Citizens and Associations.
