The assembly of mayors of the Free Municipal Consortium of Ragusa, with the functions of the Council, unanimously approved the Management Report for the 2023 financial year and the related annexes. The extraordinary commissioner Patrizia Valenti opened the session by highlighting satisfaction with the definition of the important act. The 2023 management statement outline provides for an administrative result of 52,199,268.12 euros.

Among the main activities guaranteed by the provincial body, thanks to the financial instruments in order and the ability to find financing, there was the maintenance of the road infrastructure, of the school buildings, of the extraordinary collection of waste along the relevant roads, also for the protection of the territory. “The institution has also guaranteed services for disabled students with its own funds, given that regional transfers were not sufficient. Furthermore, even if in part not significant, it has guaranteed initiatives to promote the territory linked to economic and tourism development, through cultural and recreational events”, explained the manager of the Finance and Accounting sector, Giuseppe di Giorgio.

As regards the Pnrr funds, all the spending timetables are in line with the established targets. These are extraordinary maintenance and seismic adaptation projects of school buildings in the municipalities of Modica, Vittoria, Ispica, Scicli, Comiso and Ragusa. In addition to these, the construction of two gyms in Modica and Ispica is underway. Finally, facilities for sports purposes are being built in Comiso and Scicli. In total, the funding received by the provincial body amounts to around 16 million, intended for works to be completed by December 2026. “We are in line with all the objectives, we will respect the deadline imposed by the law and in some cases we will bring forward the deadlines”, he specified the manager of the Public Works and Infrastructure sector Carlo Sinatra.

Commissioner Valenti, later in the session, took stock of the Ragusa LCC projects included by the Sicilian Region in the programming plan of the FSC Funds. The majority of these sums, approximately 600 million euros, will be allocated to the completion of the Modica-Scicli motorway lot. A series of projects have also been proposed for the maintenance of roads in the Iblean area. “In addition to the FSC resources, the programming of the POC 21-27 will begin shortly, and in this case too it will be necessary to find the projects in the most advanced state of definition possible. It is another very important opportunity not to be missed,” concluded Valenti.
