Fight and Prevention in Terni

Synthetic drugs emergency: fight and prevention in Terni

Drug Emergency – In Terni, the fight against drug trafficking takes on increasingly complex contours with the emergence of powerfully lethal drugs and the tragic loss of young lives. Giampaolo Nicolasi, head of the Incontro community in Molino Silla, hosts 350 people determined to free themselves from addictions, including minors seriously involved in the use of dangerous substances such as crack and new chemical compounds that are difficult to trace. Today’s Messaggero Umbria reports this in an article by Nicoletta Gigli.

Recently, the province of Terni has witnessed the appearance of extremely potent drugs, never before seen in the region. Among these, pink cocaine and superhashish, which boast purities that can reach 95%, represent a serious risk to users’ lives.

A relevant episode saw a citizen of Terni mistakenly receive a package containing pink cocaine, a notoriously expensive and popular drug in nightlife, which was promptly seized by the police.

The market for synthetic drugs is facilitated by accessibility on the internet and the speed with which these substances are created and modified in laboratories, making it almost impossible for doctors to find the right antidotes in the event of an overdose. The challenges are enormous for drug investigators, who must face a constantly evolving reality.

Nicolasi underlines the close collaboration with the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, which sends frequent updates on new drugs seized, thus allowing a more timely and informed response. One of the most feared substances currently is Fentanyl, extremely dangerous even in small quantities. Fortunately, this substance has not yet been detected in the Nicolasi community, a sign that preventive measures are bearing fruit.

Despite the efforts, the community of Terni remains marked by tragedies such as the one involving Flavio and Gianluca, two teenagers whose lives were ended by a lethal dose of methadone. This event sparked a strong reaction, with the victims’ families demanding significant compensation for their loss, blaming poor handling of drug addiction cases by local authorities.

In this context of serious concern for public safety and the health of young people, the fight against synthetic drugs and their trafficking becomes an absolute priority for the community and for law enforcement, highlighting the need for continuous commitment and constant vigilance to protect the lives and future of the city.
