CROTONE This morning, a Pallagorio, Savelli, Crotone and Catanzaro, as well as in the provinces of Milan, Modena and Florence, the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of the Operational Department of the Provincial Command of Crotone and those of the Cirò Marina Company, supported by the soldiers of the other territorially competent Departments of the Carabinieri, carried out an arrest order against 3 people, residents in the province of Crotone emergency preventive seizure, issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Crotone, for crimes of embezzlement, false ideology and self-laundering, committed continuously to the detriment of the Municipality of Savelli, from 2013 to 2023.
The investigations
The investigations, still ongoing, established the diversion, repeated over time, of public money for the total amount of 2,830,404.05 Euros, distractions consumed through the formation and issuing, by the suspects, of false payment orders (currently 320 false payment orders), with which public money was credited to their personal current accounts of the suspects or companies attributable to them, rather than being allocated to the payment of the Municipality’s public expenses (such as those of the utilities of ENEL or others and of the services rendered to the Institution, and to which the public money was intended). One of the suspects then reused part of the stolen public money in a bar in Florence, thus committing the crime of self-laundering.
In particular, in execution of the provision issued by the Crotone Prosecutor’s Office, they were 2 lands and 4 homes seized in advancebelonging or attributable to the suspects, as well as valuable goods (such as jewelery and sums of cash found from the suspects), while, in Milan and Florence, they were seized a company (located in via Montenapoleone, in the Meneghino Centre), attributable to 2 suspects and into whose account part of the proceeds from embezzlement crimes were transferred, and the Bar, located inside the Santa Maria Novella railway station, proceeds of the crime of self-laundering. Finally, in Modena, a project was carried out Search Decree with the simultaneous seizure of evidentiary documentation at the offices of an associated accounting firm.
The kidnappings
The investigations, still ongoing, conducted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Crotone with the Investigative Unit of the Carabinieri of Crotone and the NORM of Cirò Marina, have so far led to the seizure of:
- Cash [ammontante a circa 18.000,00 Euro e a 1.300,00 Dollari Americani]jewels and valuables [tra i quali alcuni orologi di grande pregio delle marche Rolex e Baume & Mercier, nonché dei gioielli della nota marca Bulgari, aventi un valore stimato in non meno di 150.000,00 ];
- current accounts, companies, real estate [[4 apartments and 2 large agricultural lands, with an estimated value of approximately 800,000.00 and cars – motor vehicles (two 2020 Toyota Rav 4 passenger cars and 2022 BMW 3 Series convertible coupe, as well as a 2020 Ducati Monster motorcycle), placed at the disposal of the Judicial Administrator, appointed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Crotone for the obligations within his competence.
