The Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Francesco Lollobrigida, offers another of his now proverbial gaffes. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s brother-in-law, during question time, responds live on TV to the senators’ questions and yesterday gave away another pearl of rare beauty: “Fortunately this year the drought has hit some areas of the South and Sicily in particular”.
LOLLOBRIGIDA AND THE GAFFES
There are many interpretations that can be given of Minister Lollobrigida’s statement, all more or less tragicomic. Not that this is anything new: over the last few months the Minister of Agriculture has made himself known above all for rather ambiguous interventions, from when he said that in Italy the poor eat better than the rich to when he floated the idea of promoting wine consumption by combining it with physical well-being and sporting events.
The manner of Lollobrigida’s speech is naturally striking: her “Fortunately this year the drought is affecting many regions of the South much more, in particular Sicily” are words spoken also and above all because the minister’s interlocutor, evidently, is of the North. He himself revealed it: “And luckily it affects (the drought) much less the areas from which you come and which produce an exceptionally high value of wine.”
