Five cruise ships in port: the season starts again with a bang

CIVITAVECCHIA – The cruise season is in full swing. Just walk around the city center to realize the recovery of tourism.

In fact, only yesterday there were five cruise ships in port – Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Escape, Oasis of the Seas, Costa Smeralda and Crystal Symphony – for a total of around 26 thousand passengers in transit.

Many those who chose to reach the capital: already before 9 am, many tourists reached the train station on foot, slaloming between the construction sites on the avenue. However, there were just as many who remained in the city and who, throughout the day, entertained themselves by visiting the centre, the churches, the market, the shops, the squares and the most evocative corners of Civitavecchia, independently, map in hand, or accompanied by tourist guides.

Indeed, as confirmed by the general director of the Rct John Portelli, Wednesday was also a day of intense work. «Two busy days in the port of Civitavecchia – he explained – we hosted 11 cruise ships: Mein Schiff 2, Viking Star, MSC Seaview, MSC Splendida, Marella Voyager, Sea Cloud II, Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Escape, Oasis of the Seas, Costa Smeralda and Crystal Symphony. Around 40,000 passengers in two days.”

A first real taste of the season which promises to be more than positive, after last year’s record season.

A few days ago, in fact, the president of the ADSP Pino Musolino and Portelli himself presented the results of the first four months of 2024, which saw 444,050 cruise passengers, both in transit (253,900) on a tourist visit and embarking and disembarking (turn around) in the port of Civitavecchia (190,150). An increase of 19% compared to the same period last year.

According to Rct estimates, therefore, the current year can exceed the 3.3 million passengers registered in 2023.
