The former M5s Giovanni Favia was acquitted of the charge of sexual assault because the fact does not exist. Favia was indicted last January. The woman who accused him, with whom he had had a relationship for a few months in 2021, had reported him for what happened on the night between 5 and 6 November. The Bolognese edition of Republic announces that the Gup Roberta Malavasi established Favia’s innocence in the abbreviated hearing. The public prosecutor Tommaso Pierini had already made an initial request for dismissal. After Barbara Iannuccelli’s opposition, investigating judge Domenico Truppa ordered the compulsory indictment. However, the other two charges, stalking and injuries, were dropped.
“A veritable media massacre was carried out against my client,” comments Favia’s lawyer, Francesco Antonio Maisano. Which he adds: «He suffered and paid in advance for something he shouldn’t have had to pay for. The presumption of innocence, today, is something that is talked about a lot, but is practiced little. I hope that this story can remain emblematic of the ordeal that an innocent person can go through, with often irreparable damage.”
