Diocesan Museum, Palù: «God save the material of art»

CREMONA – God Save Matter. God save matter, in an era that increasingly sees the virtual, the digital and the immaterial dominate. This is the title, but above all the concept behind the new exhibition by Giorgio Palù set up at the Diocesan Museum and inaugurated yesterday afternoon. Artist as well as architect, Palù (Cremona 1964) created an exhibition project, curated by Ilaria Bignottiwhich accompanies the visitor to discover the museum, artistic and liturgical assets in dialogue with the presence of its contemporary art.

Antonio Napolioni, Giorgio Palù, Don Gianluca Gaiardi and Ilaria Bignotti at the presentation:

A true spiritual journey, where the works shaped in matter by Palù are capable of spreading messages and contents, even with a different interpretative key, handed down over the centuries by the works of sacred art exhibited in the rooms of the Museum. The bishop will do the honors Anthony Napolioni: «I would like to thank Giorgio Palù for the incredible work done in the Museum whose project he signed. Every time I see it, I am always amazed by the magnificent staircase, a touch of contemporaneity inside a historic building. It almost looks like Jacob’s Ladder, which unites heaven and earth.”

«Everyone who passes through here is impressed by the Museum, the distinctive feature of an incredible architect», added Don Gianluca Gaiardi, responsible for diocesan assets. The mayor then spoke Gianluca Galimberti: «Thanks to the Diocesan Museum for what it does in terms of art and culture, both for the people of Cremona and for tourists. Thanks to Palù, one of the protagonists of the renewal of our cultural heritage.” «This is an exhibition based on the concept of matter – added the curator Bignotti -. Material that can release energy and potential.”

The exhibition consists of 18 works and 2 multimedia installations and the idea is to make them dialogue with the masterpieces present in the museum. «The works – explained Palù – are mainly created using resins, worked travertine, iron with gold leaf. Materials capable of bringing a message of light. I expect this in my art, which is fundamental and which takes on a transcendental, spiritual and emotional value more than ever.”

Finally, Palù reserved a thank you to Michele Bitchaka Michelangelo, present at the inauguration, «with whom I shared the idea and some contents of the immersive multimedia work Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, placed, not surprisingly, at the end of the exhibition», recalled Palù. God save matter is included in the schedule of Cremona Contemporanea – Art Week which will be held from 18 to 26 May.
