San Cataldo, also known as San Cataldo of Taranto, is a saint venerated in the Catholic Church. He was bishop of Taranto in the 10th century.

Cataldo is known for his dedication to preaching the Gospel and caring for souls. He was a bishop much loved and respected by the community of Taranto for his holiness of life and his commitment to service to others.

One of the best known stories regarding San Cataldo is his miraculous intervention during a Saracen invasion in Taranto. It is said that, during the siege of the city, Cataldo carried an image of the Virgin Mary in procession along the city walls. The image would have frightened the invaders, who withdrew their troops and abandoned the siege.

San Cataldo is commemorated on May 10th in the Catholic Church. He is considered the patron saint of Taranto and of sailors. His life and his example of faith and courage are still revered by believers and devotees around the world.
