Trapani is thirsty, summer is upon us and the arrival of water in the city from working wells must be maximum. The greatest number of proprietary sources must necessarily be brought into operation, where possible. And even where it is impossible. As happens in Inici, where there is a well from which Trapani no longer quenches its thirst.
To extract 3 centimeters of water from Inici, over 15 million are needed. An enormity for the Municipality of Trapani. So in order to increase the water supply of San Giovannello, Palazzo D’alì the Inici well ‘gives’ to Siciliacque in approxchange of 40% more water on the Bresciana pipeline. The agreement has the approval of the Council and the signature is only “a formality”. But the idea of water independence of Trapani from Siciliacqua is crumbling.
“At this moment, the Inici well is in a state of abandonment because – explains the mayor of Trapani Giacomo Tranchida – more than 15 million euros would be needed to bring it up to speed. This well is estimated to have a production between 45 and a maximum of 60 litres. By intervening appropriately, you can reach 100 litres. Provided that the aquifer level does not decrease due to the drought emergency. The problem is bringing water from Monte Inici to Trapani”. The pipeline of over 30 kilometers is old and full of flaws. The estimated intervention of 15 million cannot be supported by the Municipality, which does not have the funds for such an important contract. Thus Palazzo D’Alì “found a solution in the meantime. Siciliacque obtained funding to redo a pipeline of approximately 1 kilometer so as to bring water from that well in Inici towards Castellammare and Alcamo. The 40% of water that Siciliacque will be able to produce on Inici will be recognized by the Municipality by making it available from Bresciana at zero cost”.
The Bresciana pipeline is the only direct source of water in the capital, and the Administration intends to have it at full capacity at 250 liters per second by the end of May.
“We give Siciliacque not the land but the possibility of draining the Inici well – specifies the councilor for the Integrated Water Service, Vincenzo Guaiana – granting the possibility of making others as well. It will then be the company that creates this conduct. We would receive a share of 40% of what is extracted in Inici. So, for example, if they supply us with 100 liters in San Giovannello, they will only invoice 60. Again with Siciliacque we have stipulated an agreement through which they will inject 25 liters per second into the Bresciana pipeline to supply Favignana. The agreement provides for the use of the pipeline, with a benefit of 60 thousand euros per year”.
