Two World Heritage sites will be protagonists this weekend of the “Women and Motors” event, organized by Aste e Barbelli, the historic Automotoclub of Bitonto.

From the Adriatic to Basilicata between Towers and Castles among the ancient “Sassi” and shady forests. In summary: among splendid natural landscapes, history and culture. There will be 25 crews, many of whom will come from outside the region and from the very respectable car fleet: from the Porsche 356 to the 944, from the most recent Fiat Barchettas much loved by young women to the Lancia Appia, a typical 1950s sedan… and then again, Alfa Duetto, Maserati and many others. Saturday 11 May 2024 with arrival in Matera at 11.30 am and Sunday 11 May 2024 with arrival in Andria at 10.30 am is the general program of the “Women and Motors” motoring event.

The “ladies” behind the wheel will be able to reaffirm their passion for the “historic” cars and the now proven driving ability that distinguishes them.
In Matera a visit to the Sassi, a UNESCO world heritage site, is scheduled. And with the cars in the heart of the historic center, you can then admire the typical “Ancient House” and the “Museum of Rural Civilization”. Followed by everyone at the table, to enjoy the typical local cuisine in a characteristic tavern.
Return to Bitonto in the afternoon, where we will participate in the conference debate: ‘…It is never an isolated issue’, moderated by Isabella Acquaviva, regarding the very current “women’s question”.
The evening, musically enlivened by the singer Annalisa Marella, fresh from recent programs on Rai Due, will end with the long-awaited gala dinner.
On Sunday 12 May it is the turn of the city of Andria which will welcome the 25 historic cars, which will be on display in Piazza Catuma, in the heart of the historic centre, where participants will visit the exclusive ‘Historical Museum of Confetto Mucci’. Afterwards we will move to the nearby manor of ‘Castel del Monte’, where the crews will make an interesting guided tour of the hunting residence of Frederick II of Swabia, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

And the choice of the visit to the “Castel del Monte” was not accidental: “…it was Frederick II of Swabia in 1231 who was the first to dictate organic rules against violence against women”, as the President of the Aste e Bilancieri club underlined . After the visit, a lunch stop in the immediate vicinity of the Award Ceremony Castle, thanks to the participating ladies, and to the Authorities who attended together with the goodbye to the 2025 edition.
