The electoral offices of Annalisa Arletti and Riccardo Righi were defaced by the No Vax movement. Current affairs

A nasty surprise greeted people passing through Corso Cabassi and Corso Roma this morning: the windows and walls of the electoral offices of Annalisa Arletti And Riccardo Righi smeared by the delusional writings of No Vax. An act of vandalism to which we would not like to give visibility, so as not to play into the hands of the perpetrators, who have already targeted the Fanti high school and the entrance to the clinic: but it is an episode that a newspaper cannot ignore, precisely because the citizens they were the first to see it and not reporting it would be like putting a blindfold on.

Immediately, the first comment received was that of Riccardo Righi: «And how can one comment? We comment on things that make sense, that are in the world of reality, not acts of vandalism. Let’s look at this crap, what is it? An attack on the system, this supernatural entity that moves us all like puppets? A scratch on democracy? No! It’s just an act of vandalism, therefore idiotic. The only ones who really suffer from this rubbish are the volunteers who set up our electoral committees with joy and passion. I hope we don’t give visibility to these few confused people who today are gloating over their heroic gesture which has nothing heroic about it.”

A harsh sentence also comes from Annalisa Arletti: «We want to express our firm condemnation for the acts of vandalism that hit the electoral headquarters of the center right in Carpi this night. These are gestures that express feelings of violence, hatred and cowardice that have nothing to do with democracy – says the centre-right mayoral candidate –. The city doesn’t deserve this. We believe that, regardless of the opinions expressed, discussion must always be healthy, free and civil. We will file a complaint and hope that such incidents will never happen again. However, I want to reiterate that if anyone thought they were trying to intimidate or scare us, they largely failed: such acts can only strengthen our convictions and will to do good for this city. I learned – concludes Arletti – that the other political forces also suffered the same threats. Being adversaries and having different ideas does not prevent me from expressing maximum solidarity on my part and that of the entire center-right coalition towards them. Now we hope that the perpetrators of these actions will be found and adequately punished.”

A condemnation of the incident also comes from the CGIL of Carpi: «A very serious act, a cowardly attack on the headquarters of political parties through which the free and democratic participation of citizens in the next local elections is expressed – writes the union -. The CGIL of Carpi asks that light be shed on the perpetrators of these attacks and that the culprits be identified. This is not the civil method for campaigning, which must instead be based on democratic, open discussion and respect for discordant ideas. In response, believing in the defense and relaunch of democratic moments and in the spirit of our Constitution, we invite everyone to go and vote, so as not to let those who want to destroy our democratic institutions prevail.”

The position of the Alleanza Verdi Sinistra has also been received by the editorial staff: «AVS Carpi expresses its condemnation for the events that occurred last night and which saw the offices of the candidates Righi and Arletti being daubed with graffiti by acronyms which refer to anti-vax movements. We intend to express our solidarity with the mayoral candidates who suffered this act of vandalism and we reiterate our full support for the healthcare personnel who have always worked in the pursuit of public health.”

The candidate for mayor also appears on her Facebook page Monica Medici brings its solidarity to the targeted political opponents: «We express solidarity with all the lists that have seen their offices defaced by subjects who intended to represent their dissent in a deplorable form – writes Medici -. We trust in the ability of our law enforcement agencies to promptly ascertain what happened. The task of local politics is to continue to discuss the city’s problems and to propose constructive solutions for the health and well-being of all its citizens.”

«It goes without saying that going to deface the offices of the electoral committees of the mayoral candidates is an uncivilized and profoundly anti-democratic gesture – we read in a note from the Secretary of the Democratic Party of Carpi, Daniela Depietri –. The point is that we are really tired, as we are sure all citizens are, of these vandalistic, cowardly and anonymous actions, which from time to time target schools, hospitals and public spaces. This time it was the turn of the committees of Riccardo Righi and Annalisa Arletti, to whom we express our complete solidarity, but they are only the last in a long list. The limit is full: we hope that these cowards and violent people, because there is violence even in their gestures, are identified and punished as they deserve. Those who do not possess the strength of their ideas move on to the idea of strength. This obviously doesn’t stop the electoral campaign and the activities of the candidates: it’s just a shame that, out of stupidity, they haven’t yet discovered a vaccine.”
