CORIGLIANO-ROSSANO – «The effects of the lack of investments in healthcare, unfortunately, lead to these disastrous consequences. We have denounced, several times and for some time, the insufficiency of resources allocated to public health by this Government, representing the gravity and side effects of these choices. Health spending per capita with this Government is far below the European average and this consolidates the drama of an Italian health system which in 2024 will see the departure of as many as 20 thousand doctors, of
of which 90% are young people under forty”.

This was declared by MP Elisa Scutellà, M5S group leader in the EU Policy Commission, who continues: «The drama is even more tangible in Calabria, a land tormented by health and social policies that leave doctors and healthcare personnel without suitable structures and equipment. The Government is letting excellent young doctors go abroad instead of
provide for their stabilization which Italy needs. If you just think about the paradox that in Calabria there are 300, increasingly indispensable, Cuban doctors and our doctors who are forced to go abroad are not stabilized, you perfectly understand the enormous disaster that this Government is making.”

«The approximation of this Government is no longer tolerable, especially when
data arrives that is as worrying as it is humanly painful. In Calabria there are citizens who really don’t have the material possibility of accessing treatment, also due to the biblical waiting lists and the absence of doctors. It is no mystery that these people, driven by immediate need, are often forced into “health nomadism” towards the North, obviously when they are economically able to do so. However, when this economic possibility does not exist, Calabrian citizens are forced to go into debt in order to obtain assistance and treatment, or there are those who even give up on treatment. Receive treatment ed
medical assistance, with this Government, has become a luxury, so those who have the money get treatment, while those who don’t have the possibility are forced to go into debt or give up the indispensable right to health” he concludes.
