Sport as a tool against bullying: Meeting in Crotone

The conference “Sport and bullying” was held on Tuesday 7 May at the Alcmeone Institute. The initiative is part of the ANSMe.S 2024 National Project “Sport Universal Language: inclusion and multi-ethnicity”. The conference was organized by ANSMES (National Association of Stars, Palms and Golden Collars of Merit of CONI and CIP), by CONI Point of Crotone and by the Alcmeone Institute.

The works, moderated by Piero Pili, were introduced by greetings from Prof. Anna Iannone (School Director of the Alcmeone Institute), from Dr. Sergio Contarino (President of the ANSMES Provincial Committee) and from Prof. Francesca Pellegrino (Provincial Delegate CONI).
Subsequently, Dr. Gianluca Lumare (President of the Educando Peter Pan Association) and Dr. Antonella Diano (psychologist and President of the Baco Center) spoke.

In his speech, Lumare wanted to remember the many young victims of bullying and the importance of school, reiterating the need to return to the values ​​of life for which the collaboration of adults is essential.
Subsequently, Dr. Diano spoke about the effect of bullying on psychological and emotional well-being. By viewing some slides, you reiterated impressive data on suicides among minors, many of whom are victims of bullying.
For the part concerning sport, Vincenzo Arcuri (President Rari Nantes L. Auditore) spoke and expressed the sporting world’s willingness to listen to the kids and their problems.

Then we moved on to the open debate, with the exchange of testimonies and interventions from the numerous students present. As evidence, Giacomo Gagliardi (testimonial of the Achei American Football) and Massimo Giacoppo (ASD Rari Nantes L. Auditore – silver medal at the London Olympics in 2012) brought their contribution.
Gagliardi recalled that the pillars of civil society are the family, school and sport, inviting young people to practice sporting activity.

The speech by the Olympic champion Giacoppo was very popular and he answered the numerous questions posed by the kids, inviting them to form a group and reiterating that only with sacrifices come successes. A delegation of students from the Anne Frank Institute also participated in the conference, accompanied by Prof. Giuseppe Elia.
President Contarino recalled that “ANSMES is made up of CONI stars, the meritorious of sport. Behind every star there are years of sacrifices and commitments, negative and positive moments but above all women and men who continue to believe in the rules and principles of sport as an irreplaceable teacher of life. With these assumptions, the ANSMES of Crotone is ready, with all its members to make their contribution”.
