SPoor TV signal, mobile phone works patchily, weak internet connection everywhere. The digital divide that affects mountain territories does not spare the small municipalities of the Dauni Mountains. But no one notices. The meetings held in Foggia in the Prefecture were of no avail. The promises of the telephone companies have remained so. In these days in Capitanata the national president of Uncem, Marco Bussone, which has been reporting the age-old problem for years. “This is a huge problem for the entire Italian Apennines and the Alps. In Italy there are at least 2000 municipalities that are unable to make telephone calls, send messages and watch television. It is a topic that must be addressed by asking for investments from the Government, from the regions, and above all it must be the parliamentarians of these areas, including Foggiano, who make themselves heard. Unfortunately, too little is said about it. They only think about big cities, and in these small municipalities we remain exposed, with the digital divide increasing more and more compared to urban areas”.
And then there are those who contest 5G. “We have a series of problems with many municipalities and with mayors in check by some committee that always says no to technologies. It is not possible to say no to digital infrastructures when 6G is about to launch in China and India. The municipalities, even in the Dauni Mountains, must not say no to infrastructure. I say to the mayors that you cannot work alone in the shadow of your bell towers, it is no longer possible. And the city of Foggia must also start looking at the valleys, the Daunian mountains, and the Apennines as strategic.”
