Management of the Medical Area Departments of the University of Foggia: Margaglione and Serviddio reconfirmed

Foggia, 9 May 2024. Elections for the renewal of the roles of the Directors of the Medical Area Departments of the University of Foggia were held in recent days which saw the confirmation, for the four-year period 2024/2028, of professors Maurizio Margaglione, Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, and Gaetano Serviddio, Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences.

The professor. Maurizio Margaglione, full professor of medical genetics, was elected on May 7, with 54 preferences. 90 voters out of 91 eligible voters voted, with a turnout of 98.90%. Running with the prof. Maurizio Margaglione, Professor Annamaria Petito, full professor of Clinical Psychology, who obtained 36 preferences.

The professor. Gaetano Serviddio, professor of internal medicine, was elected yesterday, May 8, with 77 preferences. 80 voters out of 88 eligible voters voted, 3 blank ballots, with a turnout of 90.91%. The professor. Servidio was the only candidate.

“On my own behalf and on behalf of the Community, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to my colleagues Maurizio Margaglione and Gaetano Serviddio for the confirmation of the prestigious role at the helm of the medical area departments together with my best wishes for a fruitful job that is able to fully protect and enhance the interest general with a view to an increasingly integrated and synergistic collaboration.
I am sure that both will continue to carry out this role with the competence, professionalism and sense of responsibility that distinguish them, finalizing their work towards consolidating the important goals achieved in recent years., but also and above all, initiating new actions aimed at improving teaching, research, third mission and assistance activities. The new season of reforms, which is about to open in the medical health area, requires maximum attention and the assumption of leadership within the university system which must be oriented towards the analysis of critical issues and the identification of proposals that allow us to achieve transversally shared objectives.” Declared the Rector, prof. The basis of the choice to reapply as Director there is a firm will to continue working, with a spirit of service and passion, in favor of the scientific community to which I proudly belong. I am aware of the great commitment that this role requires and which I am preparing to carry out with renewed enthusiasm. There are many challenges that await us and that the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine will face in strong synergy with the University as well as with the Policlinico Riuniti of Foggia, under the direction of Dr. Pasqualone, in order to strengthen the training offer in the bio- medical and to optimize the local healthcare offer.” Said Prof. Maurizio Margaglione.

Maurizio Margaglione
Full Professor of Medical Genetics and II level Medical Director at the “OO.RR.” of Foggia, prof. Margaglione, born in 1963, had recently been appointed, as an expert, of the National Committee of Rare Diseases of the Ministry of Health (July 2023). Author of over 300 international scientific publications, prof. Margaglione is a member of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), Italian Society for the Study of Haemostasis and Thrombosis (SISET), Italian Society of Human Genetics (SIGU), Italian Association of Haemophilia Treatment Centers (AICE ), Federation of Anticoagulation Surveillance Centers (FCSA). He was a Councilor in the National Executive Committee of SISET 2002-2004 Editorial Board of the journal Thrombosis and Haemostasis (1999-2003) Editorial Board of the journal Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (2003-2012) Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator of funded research projects by the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Research and Private Foundations.

Prof. Gaetano Serviddio
Born in 1971, graduated in Bari cum laude, specialized at the University of Foggia, experiences at the Hôpital Cantonal Universitaire in Geneva in 1996 with the IFMSA and Research fellowship at the University of Valencia from 2001 to 2003. Scholarship and research training experimental at the University of Turin in 2001. Medical officer of the Air Force (112th AUC unit of Florence) and seconded to the 61st wing of Galatina (Lecce) 1999-2000. Awarded the international “Catherine Pasquier award” of the Society for Free Radical Research Europe at Imperial College London in 2012. Academic senator for two terms, elected member of the University Scientific Commission. Full Professor of Internal Medicine Director of the University Hepatology Complex Operational Unit Director of the Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences. Founder of the Center for Research and Treatment Director of the Specialization School of Geriatrics at the University of Foggia. He was deputy editor of the official magazine of the Italian Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology, author of a book on Viral Hepatitis, co-author of the textbook for university students on Medical Methodology. Member of national and international scientific societies, Associated editor of the prestigious magazine “Redox Biology”, international reviewer of competitive projects. Member of the bilateral table of the Italian embassy in Korea in 2016 and Co-Editor of the international congress “ICON 2015: controversies in medical and surgical medicine”, Manila and Cebu (Philippines). Top Italian Scientist since 2018. Author of over 300 publications. The professor. Serviddio is the Rector’s delegate for strategic health policies.
