TIM accelerates fiber optics in Basilicata and through FiberCop, the Group’s infrastructure company, gives impetus to the cabling interventions envisaged by the ‘Italy 1 Giga Plan’ as part of the PNRR to bring ultrabroadband connections to 120 municipalities in the region. The objective is to connect with optical fiber over 66,600 house numbers located in the areas identified by the tender. The temporary business grouping made up of TIM and FiberCop, in fact, was awarded 7 lots of the ‘Italy 1 Giga Plan’ tender for a total of 10 regions, including Basilicata. The investment for this intervention in Basilicata is approximately 130 million euros, of which approximately 91 are public contributions through PNRR funds and 39 from the TIM Group. The new street numbers already identified following the ‘walk-in’ activities, i.e. the technical inspections carried out with the aim of detecting the actual number of real estate units being connected, will be covered with fiber optics. Of the 120 Lucanian municipalities affected by the interventions for the construction of ultra-fast networks envisaged by the ‘Italy 1 Giga Plan’, 93 are located in the province of Potenza and 27 in that of Matera. To date, work has already started in 41 municipalities, while the completion of the Plan is expected by June 2026. This is an ambitious project with stringent implementation times that require full integration and collaboration between all the parties involved and particular attention to the peculiarities of the territory and the dimensions of the intervention.

This is a significant challenge that requires a great organizational effort on the part of our company with the aim of wiring approximately 66 thousand civic buildings at the conclusion of the Plan. In order to speed up the execution of the works as much as possible, we have already implemented a series of important actions to support local contracting companies and strengthened our internal design structures. It is also necessary that all the bodies involved are sensitive to the importance and scope of the plan”.
