LIVORNO – Extraordinary operation at the Livorno hospital. On May 2, a multi-organ donation was performed with a stopped heart. Four patients benefited.
The complex care path involved “the intervention of the mobile Ecmo team of the Cuore di Massa hospital which, using the extracorporeal circulation technique, ensured, after the patient’s death, that the functionality of the organs was maintained and that the subsequent transplant was possible ”. An opportunity also highlighted by the company itself.
“I would like to remember – adds the coordinator of the donation and transplant activities of the North West Tuscany Local Health Authority Paolo Lopane – the inter-company nature of the event which saw five distinct teams of professionals from 4 companies simultaneously engaged in the operating room of the Livorno hospital health services including the University Hospital of Padua, which have demonstrated, in addition to their high professional skills, an optimal level of multi-professional and multidisciplinary integration”.
