The municipal police of Montemurlo, as part of a joint operation in which the financial police, carabinieri, police, labor inspectorate, local health authority, INPS – INAIL and firefighters also took part, placed numerous persons under preventive criminal seizure. building abuses and failure to comply with health and safety regulations in the workplace, a real estate complex in via Montalese on the border with the Municipality of Prato. The officers found 16 dormitories – niches for a total of 39 beds. The building complex, owned by two Italian real estate companies and rented to a Chinese citizen, is composed of a ground floor of one thousand square meters where there were two packages, run by Chinese, a basement of 200 square meters, an office and a space showrooms, the latter both transformed into laboratories, where at the time of the inspection several workers were working, seven of whom were found to be illegal on Italian territory and hired illegally. In the two packs the workers worked in precarious hygienic-sanitary conditions and slept on the upper floors. On the first floor the agents found three apartments for a total of 300 square metres, one of which was used exclusively as a kitchen, complete with a cook who took care of preparing meals for everyone, and a canteen. On the second floor there were, however, four attics (for a total of 90 square metres) also used as dormitories and full of dirt and in precarious safety conditions. The municipal police of Montemurlo therefore proceeded with the preventive seizure of the entire property, even if it is not the first time that the complex has come under the scrutiny of the municipal authorities. The place was checked another four times, in addition to the last check carried out a few days ago, by the agents of the Via Toscanini command who had already taken steps to place the property under criminal seizure in 2017, asking the owners and tenants to restore the state of the places. The Municipality will now issue an order to the owners and tenants of the rental for the restoration of the property and the safety of the places, while the other bodies involved in the joint operation are taking steps to issue sanctions, including pecuniary ones, each for their own area competence.
