Viterbo – “We ask the mayor Chiara Frontini to parade at Tuscia Pride to the tune of Raffaella Carrà”. The request comes directly from the organizers of the Pride which will be held on June 1st in the streets of the historic center of Viterbo. To give voice to the rights of all queer and trans people in the area. TusciaPride which, in the meantime, has obtained the patronage of Palazzo dei Priori.
“But it is not enough – say the Pride organizers – if not accompanied by a physical presence of the administration. As TusciaPride we are thrilled to have received the patronage from the municipality of Viterbo signed by the deputy mayor Alfonso Antoniozzi. The 2022 Lazio Pride certainly marked a turning point in our city and allowed all public actors, parties and municipal administration first and foremost, to acquire a different awareness on LGBTQIA+ issues, far from stereotypes, less bigoted, respectful of diversity individual and more focused on people’s real needs. This change can be identified only by the fact that the municipality concluded the bureaucratic procedures necessary for granting patronage to Pride only a handful of days after the request, and therefore very quickly”.

“The patronage of the municipality at Pride – continue the organizers of the event – is fundamental to make the queer and trans community perceive the closeness of the entire city to itself and to its own demands, but it is not sufficient if not accompanied by a physical presence of the administration as well as a concrete commitment to listening to the requests of queer and trans people and translating these requests into real political actions, advocacy risks being reduced to a mere formal sop.”

“Given that the figure who most of all represents the unity of the municipal administration and of the city itself as a whole is the mayor – underline the organizers of TusciaPride – we now ask Chiara Frontini to be present at Pride, to march alongside we teenagers, adults and queer families from the Viterbo area to the tune of Raffaella Carrà, to discuss with us who suffer discrimination and abuse every day for the sole fact of not being heterosexual or cisgender, to reflect together with us on what could make Viterbo a city more welcoming and inclusive and to take a public and clear stand for the rights and equality of people, regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity”.
“Before being a party, Pride – conclude the organizers of the event – is the maximum moment of political representation of the queer and trans community; Being close to citizens when they ask for their requests to be heard and accepted is the duty of local institutions and of municipalities in particular. We therefore expect the mayor, the entire municipal administration and the entire municipal council in the square with us on June 1st”.
