Investigations to clarify whether they come from an archaeological area
There is a suspicion that some of the stones seized this morning in the port of Olbia – Isola bianca from a couple of Tuscan tourists, leaving on the ferry for Livorno, were collected in an archaeological area in Fordongianus.
The tourists were stopped by the security officers of the Sardinia Sea Port System Authority, who, while checking the trunk of their car, found around twenty large stones. Given the conformation, it is thought that some stones may come from sites of particular interest.
It is not known what the owners of the car said after the checks. The seizure was reported to the territorial operational section of the Customs Agency for investigations and appropriate checks on the real origin of the stones.
Today’s case is the second case of theft prevented during the year by the Port Authority, which will also be engaged in increasingly careful checks on departing passengers for the 2024 tourist season, for the protection of Sardinia’s environmental and archaeological heritage.
