The caravan of Tour of Italy faced today the 5th stage of the 2024 edition, Genoa-Lucca for a total length equal to 178km which took runners from Liguria to Tuscany. Today’s stage, 9 May 2024, was won with some amazement by Benjamin Thomas who managed not only to always keep ahead of the breakaway, but to overtake in a sprint Michael Valgren and to permanently cancel the action taken by Pietrobon. Disappointment too Jonathan Milanwinner of yesterday’s stage, who achieved a fifth place below his possibilities.
The route included a first part of the stage that promises well, in particular with the Passo del Bosco after 62 km: The Mountain Grand Prix Of third category. For almost 100 km, in fact, you go on total plain until second GPM of the day: about 20 km from the finish there was the Montemagno, a fourth category which is a prologue to the last stretch of the route towards the finish line.
