L’arrest of president Giovanni Toti and the maxi investigation into corruption in Liguria has now fully entered the narrative of the Sanremo electoral campaign in view of the elections of 8 and 9 June.
The centre-right candidate Gianni Rolando and its civic contender Alessandro Mager they have been challenging each other for 24 hours with declarations, distances, guaranteeist wishes and mutual accusations, always putting Giovanni Toti and his creation ‘Cambiamo’ in the middle who, until some time ago, all seemed to be dragging their feet. Now, as has always happened in the world of politics, the scenario has completely changed and there is a competition to see who claims to be the most distant.
Between the two litigants comes the Democratic party of Sanremo who, through the voice of the provincial secretary Cristian Quesada, the city secretary Gianni Salesi and the candidate for the administrative elections Francesca Antonelli, urges Rolando: “He declares that the parties that support him have nothing to do with Toti’s ‘Let’s change’ movement, but Brothers of Italy, League And Forza Italia in the Region don’t they support Giovanni Toti? He distances himself from Claudio Scajola, but isn’t Claudio Scajola the new leader of Forza Italia in Liguria and is he supported in the Municipality and in the Province by Fratelli d’Italia, Lega and Forza Italia? I understand that the sport of the day has become to declare that you don’t know Toti and of not being his friend, but in recent years, in addition to having sought his support, he has been flattered in every way by joining a civic movement like ‘Let’s change’ which cannot be denied solely and exclusively for the fact that it does not decided to support him in the municipal elections. In the end, despite not wanting to go into the merits of the investigations, the citizens know very well that the chameleonic Rolando generally he finds himself a supporter of public water 60 days before the municipal elections and now all of a sudden he is also trying to unburden himself of his relationships which until three months ago he maintained constantly with Toti and one cannot help but take note of the fact that the parties that support him are the same ones that support Toti in the Region”.
“As regards the continuous pitch invasions by Claudio Scajola on the Sanremo municipal elections – concludes Quesada – Allow me to give some advice: they are not good for those who receive them, since Alexander Mager he claims to be a civic candidate without anyone having to give his candidacy the green light. Certain types of endorsement by those who want to privatize water and have been the dominus of the centre-right in the province for 40 years should be avoided because we risk losing the sense of civility”.
