We enter behind the scenes of great music with the portrait of a unique producer, the Turin-born Carlo Rossi, through the memory of the musicians who collaborated with him during his long professional career
A special evening, that of last April 29th, organized byCarlo U. Rossi Association to the Colosseum Theatre of Turin in the context of Turin Jazz Festival 2024which hosted the Award in memory of Carlo Rossicomposer, arranger, artistic producer and sound engineer, one of the most important and authoritative figures on the Italian music scene of the last 30 years.
The Association, led by Alexandra BrizziCarlo’s wife, has been promoting a series of initiatives since 2018 (including the awarding of scholarships and awards), with the aim of supporting the ideas of young talents and recognizing and enhance artistic production And Italian music.
The awards of the evening
The various guests of the evening were introduced and introduced on stage by a histrionic man Rocco Papaleocapable of opening the scene with one of his pieces, accompanied on the piano by Boosta of the Subsonic.

The evening is truly a tribute of friendship and shared passion for music, which unites the guests who take turns on stage, to bring a personal and unique memory of Carlo Rossi. Nina Zilli she owes her success to Carlo Rossi, who was the first to receive her demos and helped her transform them into the pieces we all know today, such as the songs Always Away or 50 thousand (which also entered the soundtrack of Mine Vaganti by Ferzan Özpetek in 2010).
For those who “come from the moon”
The anecdotes he brings to the stage are also very personal and engaging Caparezza in his unexpected monologue: the fortunate meeting with Carlo Rossi allowed the Apulian rapper to explore the ways of a world, his, made of images and stories, of narratives that Carlo, with his experience as a sound engineer and his profound passion for experimentation, he was able to transform those sounds into sounds and those same sounds into suggestions. Here then we discover all the origins of those sound intuitions that have made Caparezza’s pieces famous, such as I’m from the Moon (for example the sampled insertion – at the opening of the piece – of the communications between base and spacecraft).
Also Negrita they recognize an immense tribute of gratitude to Carlo: it is in their most famous pieces (from Mama mae to I learned to dream) that we find all the details of an indissoluble bond, the one with someone who is first and foremost a great friend, even before being a great professional and collaborator.
Pau and Carlo also shared a passion for motorbikes, for travel, for that somewhat wandering way of living life. And these are the anecdotes that make the evening so true open diary.
Music and memories
Closing this diary with the most intense pages is certainly Meg: his story of Carlo Rossi is a river in flood, which brings to the table the feelings of a friend and perhaps even of an adopted daughter.
If we think that every artist needs a mentor, a “second parent” who believes in him, first among many, to make him born on the music scene, in these terms Carlo Rossi was truly a guide for many and did a lot of everything this, with humanity and competence.
Those who attended this evening without ever having met Carlo Rossi in person, today carry with them a new portrait of a man capable of welcoming the most diverse ideas, the most distant styles to make them become – in no uncertain terms – true music: a professional who skilfully mixed his expertise with that incorrigible human and playful side, that hymn to life that still brings him back among us today.
