In the Rampigna field area archaeological excavations for the “park-museum” – Pescara

PESCARA. The mowing and preparation activities of the Rampigna archaeological area of ​​Pescara have concluded in recent days. Cleaning the area is the first, necessary operation aimed at making visible the traces of the tests already carried out and allowing archaeologists, geologists and hydraulic engineers to carry out the surveys and assessments preparatory to the planning of the overall archaeological excavation. On the field the Superintendent, Cristina Collettini, the mayor Carlo Masci, the Rup, Aldo Giorgio Pezzi and the archaeologist, Eugenio Di Valerio who monitored the preparation phase of the area.

The Superintendent declares: “We are working together with the municipal administration to guarantee adequate time for the implementation of the intervention, as promised to the city. Once this phase is completed, we will get to the heart of the planning activities of the excavation, which have already been preceded by the analysis of the results of tests already carried out and detailed surveys to better understand the levels of underground aquifers”.

“Our city is defined by everyone as the jewel of the Adriatic, known for its modern spirit. However, it is increasingly revealing its deep historical roots which reach back to the 4th century BC. The Superintendency of Cultural Heritage is carrying forward, together with the Municipality , the historical-cultural valorization project of the Rampigna field, has cleaned up the entire area, bringing to light the medieval necropolis and the walls of the sixteenth-century fortress. It will now continue with the excavations to create the park-museum, which the Ministry has financed with 6 million and 200 thousand euros, from which further fascinating finds from our past may emerge. A few steps away, RFI is bringing to light the San Vitale bastion, an integral part of that Piazzaforte that protected Pescara for centuries see our city grow and prosper, maintaining its foundations on a thousand-year history”.
