CASTEL DI SANGRO. He was working on a wall when, for reasons yet to be ascertained, he lost his balance and fell from a height of twelve metres. The victim of the accident at work, which occurred yesterday afternoon in the Castel di Sangro adventure park, was MC, a 24-year-old originally from Ecuador, but a resident of the Sangrino center for years, was seriously injured. The young man, who works as an instructor in the facility, suffered head and chest trauma and several internal injuries. The situation immediately appeared very serious to the 24-year-old’s colleagues who immediately alerted the emergency services. An ambulance from 118 intervened on the spot. The health workers, after having provided initial treatment and having noted the seriousness of the injuries, alerted the helicopter for the emergency transfer to the San Salvatore hospital in L’Aquila where he is was intubated and hospitalized in the intensive care unit, awaiting surgery which should be performed in the next few hours. The accident is being investigated by the Carabinieri Company of Castel di Sangro, coordinated by the captain, Giuseppe Testa. The military listened to the owner of the adventure park, the other employees who were working in the structure and all the people who witnessed the event to gather useful information for the investigations.
Initial checks revealed that the 24-year-old had gone to the climbing wall to give instructions to those who frequented the area. He had with him all the necessary safety equipment, but it is not yet clear whether it had been applied correctly, as required by the guidelines. The investigations are aimed precisely at clarifying this aspect in the first place.
Meanwhile, on the orders of the Sulmona Prosecutor’s Office, the Carabinieri have seized the area where the accident occurred, including the material used by the employee. Seizure notified, as required, to the owner of the structure. Meanwhile, today the ASL will carry out an inspection of the structure to verify compliance with the regulations on safety at work. The ASL inspectors will have to acquire documents and listen to the owner of the complex, in particular on the training provided to the worker regarding the protocols to be followed for risk prevention. The news of the accident immediately spread to Castel di Sangro, where the young man is well known. And where many, starting with the mayor Angelo Carusohope to receive reassuring news from his family.
