Assarmatori’s Career Days also hit the mark in Palermo
Rome, 6 May 2024 – After the success of the events held in Livorno and Torre del Greco, also the third appointment of the Career Days promoted by Assarmatori, a shipping association belonging to Conftrasporto-Confcommercio which represents Italian, European Union and third country shipowners operating in Italia maritime services, hit the mark.
Last Friday, in fact, there were over eight hundred participants, including students and interested people, who took part in the two distinct events organized in Palermo, in the morning at the “Pietro Piazza” Hotel Professional Institute in Corso dei Mille and in the afternoon at the “Gioeni-Trabia” Nautical Higher Education Institute in Via Vittorio Emanuele.
In both cases the objective was to help young people rediscover, especially, a tough but fascinating profession, ancient but modern at the same time, providing them with certain answers and encouraging meetings with those who have already undertaken a career at sea.
The meetings saw the participation of the Maritime Director of Western Sicily, Admiral Raffaele Macauda, the representative of the AdSP of Western Sicily, Luciano Caddemi, and the representatives of the companies MOBY, CIN, Toremar, GNV and Caronte & Tourist.
The students of the Piazza, the Gioeni Trabia, and the Don Michele Arena of Sciacca, which includes the Nautical and the “Maintenance and technical assistance” professional institute, in addition to the numerous people interested in starting a working career on board ships, have was able to speak with representatives of shipping companies, discovering the open positions and the interesting career prospects offered.
“The wide participation that we also found in Palermo, after Livorno and Torre del Greco, is a reason for great satisfaction and an encouraging sign for the future – comments Giovanni Consoli, Deputy General Secretary of Assarmatori – As everyone knows, the armament is dealing with a shortage of maritime personnel which has taken on emergency features, particularly during the summer season. For this reason, also following the Interministerial Decree of last November which allocated important economic resources for the training of new professionals by companies, we have organized these meetings which are going beyond the most optimistic expectations. We are experiencing great interest from young and old; this gives us a further push to organize similar events throughout Italy.”
