What happened is very reminiscent of the case of George Floydthe African American killed by the police in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 2020. This time it was the turn of an Italian student – Matteo Falcinelli25 years of Spoleto – thrown to the ground by the officers with his face on the asphalt and his knee on his neck, a maneuver that caused Floyd’s death by suffocation after a few minutes of suffering. It happened in Miami Beach in a nightclub on the evening between February 24th and 25th but the young man only told his story now for fear of retaliation. And now the family wants to better understand what happened and see if there were any violations by the officers. Falcinelli was allegedly taken by four policemen and transported to a transit cell and tied, feet and hands, left on the ground for over thirteen minutes, until he started asking “please, please”, release me. The 25-year-old was then transferred to a hospital for two days and finally to a psychiatric hospital. From what we can see online in public police records, the boy would be guilty of trespassing on private property, resisting and assaulting a public official. Furthermore, the mug shot shows the left side of the face swollen, with a visible abrasion on the cheek. Falcinelli is located in the United States to attend a master’s degree at the Biscayne Bay Campus of Florida International University. According to his LinkedIn profile, as a child he attended elementary and middle school in England and then took a college course in Business Administration at North Carolina Wesleyan College.

SHOOTING

The images of the violence on the evening of February 24th come from the body cams worn by the officers that the lawyer following the matter obtained from the prosecutor’s office on April 12th. Falcinelli admitted his guilt and will follow a re-education program ordered by the judge who will dismiss the charges. It is not clear what happened in the club and the police version and that of Falcinelli are different. The officers claim that Falcinelli was creating problems in the club: some plainclothes policemen allegedly put him on the ground and immobilized him with conscious neck restraint, a move that caused the death of several African-Americans and is prohibited by some police departments, including that of Minneapolis. The boy – he continues his reconstruction – was trying to get back 500 dollars that he would have paid for sex, but they would have been taken from him. The young man claims to have lost two cell phones, which he later found a short time later at the entrance, in the hands of a bouncer. The family wants to press charges. Her mother, Vlasta Studenicova, an Italian-Slovak citizen, is in Miami to prepare the complaint against the police together with the lawyer who is following the case.
