Coast Guard: cargo ship blocked in the canal port of Cagliari and searches for the boy found dead on the Quartu coast

THE soldiers of the Cagliari Coast Guard were engaged yesterday on various fronts to guarantee the safety of navigation and research at sea.

A first detention order was issued on Saturday by the Port State Control Unit of the Port Authority of Cagliari for a “General cargo”, a cargo ship flying the Panamanian flag , which arrived in the canal port of Cagliari last April 24th for commercial operations. The administrative detention order was triggered after an inspection during which serious deficiencies were found in the crew’s preparation and response to emergencies, fire prevention and fighting and on-board safety management. In total, 26 non-compliances were found, of which 12 were grounds for detention. At the disposal of the Port Authority, the ship will not be able to depart until the necessary safety conditions on board have been re-established, and only after it has been inspected again by the Port State Control unit.

Then yesterday evening the Cagliari Police Headquarters reported the probable cause disappearance of a person aged around 30, originally from Oristano , whose traces had been lost since the morning and whose personal effects had been found on the Margine Rosso beach, on the Poetto coast. A search device was immediately activated which involved the CP307 patrol boat and fire brigade personnel, alongside the state police.

The searches then continued until the first light of today, with the further involvement of the AW139 helicopter of the 4th Coast Guard Helicopter Flight Section of Decimomannu when the boy’s now lifeless body was found on the Poetto beach, in the Quartu area . Investigations aimed at reconstructing the dynamics of the event are still underway.
