Second semi-final this evening, Thursday 9 May, for the Eurovision Song Contest (live at 9pm on Rai2) and all the Italian public’s anticipation is focused on Angelina Mango who finally takes the stage at the Malmö Arena, Sweden. Let’s remember his performance tonight It’s not part of the race because Italy is one of the “Big Five”, that is, the countries that directly access the final on Saturday.

In addition to her, this second semi-final also hosts the performances of two other «Big Five» countries, France and Spainthe first represented by Slimane with «Mon Amour» and the second by the electropop duo Nebulossa with «Zorra»: this very passage was at the center of a heated debate in Spain because the word zorra, which literally means female fox, is actually used to indicate “slut” or “whore”. There were therefore those who asked for its withdrawal and those who defended it, obviously starting from the singer of the duo who claims that the term – repeated in the text over 40 times — is charged with new meaning, in a song that actually supports women.
Tonight all eyes will also be on representative of Israel Eden Golan, competing with «Hurricane» which takes the stage immediately after Angelina Mango’s performance. Her participation was arousing heated controversy in light of the conflict in the Middle East and protests and demonstrations are expected, after the ban on bringing flags to the competition or pro-Palestinian symbols (but by regulation it has always been forbidden to carry flags other than those of the competing countries).
The Israeli singer, however, had to change her song after initially announcing that she wanted to participate with “October Rain”, a song which, right from the title, referred to the October 7 massacre.
Other highlights from the second semi-final: tonight Italy can vote (as well as on Saturday) and there is also among the competing countries San Marino who however participates with a Spanish group, Megara.
