Free screening for breast cancer prevention for Avis donors

Avis Provinciale di Treviso and LILT-Italian League for the fight against tumors, united to launch an important initiative dedicated to Avisine donors and volunteers: they will be offered a free breast screening for the prevention of breast cancer. The first stage of the initiative will involve donors resident in the municipalities of Opitergino Mottense, in the age range between 18 and 49, who are normally excluded from routine screening.

The initiative will be presented to citizens on Wednesday 15 May at 8.30 pm in Oderzo with the information meeting “Let’s donate prevention” hosted at Palazzo Foscolo with the breast specialist Christian Rizzetto, the radiologist Eleonora Di Gaetano, the oncologist Stefano Lamon and doctor Alessandro Gava, president of the Provincial Lilt of Treviso. During the evening, the topics of cancer prevention, the treatment of tumor pathologies and the importance of correct lifestyles to be adopted daily for the benefit of health will be explored in depth.

In eight years there have been 7,000 cases of breast cancer diagnosed in the Treviso area. The greatest incidence is between 70 and 74 years of age but cases are increasing between 45 and 49 years of age. It is the most widespread form of cancer among women (equal to 30% of all female cancers) but it is also one of the oncological diseases with the highest probability of recovery if detected early.

«Thanks to the synergy with LILT we can start this prevention initiative which will last several years and will affect all the territories of the province of Treviso in turn, starting from Opitergino Mottense. As Avis Provinciale of Treviso we have decided to periodically invest a budget for cancer prevention, making a series of check-ups carried out by LILT available to our donors. Let’s start from the Opitergino Mottense with around a hundred breast visits for donors under fifty. It is a way to give them extra attention and a health tool, in line with our associative mission, dedicated to those who are ill, but based on the well-being of those who can donate, which is why we strongly believe in health education” highlights Stefano Pontello, president of Avis Provinciale of Treviso.

Dr. Alessandro Gava, president of the Provincial Lilt of Treviso, underlines: «The collaboration with Avis is also very useful for us, to convey prevention messages, given the capillarity with which the association is widespread and present in the Treviso area. By involving donors – who are people of great generosity committed to giving a part of themselves to others with the donation of blood – health is cultivated in order to be able to continue donating over time. On this occasion we are addressing younger women, through breast checks and the sharing of personalized and correct indications for carrying out self-examination and undergoing periodic visits, integrating, based on the type of breast and familiarity, with further investigations if necessary”.
