Prostate cancer, the food that reduces risks by 47%

It is now scientifically proven. A diet predominantly “green” slows down the advance of prostate cancer. According to research coordinated by the University of California at San Francismo and published on Jama Network Open, a plant-based diet – which includes fish and meat but largely made up of vegetables – contributes to stop the progression of this male cancer.

“Plant-based diets are increasingly popular and provide nutritional benefits among people diagnosed with various chronic diseases,” the researchers write, according to the Ansa website. “However, little is known about the link between plant-based diets and clinical outcomes after diagnosis of prostate cancer”.

The research team then evaluated the course of the disease in approximately 2 thousand men with a diagnosis of early prostate cancer. Well, after following patients for about 6 and a half years, researchers observed a less progression of the disease in those who adhered to a green diet. In particular, in those who diligently followed the indicated diet there was a reduction in the risk of progression of the disease 47 percent compared to those who “went wrong”.

In fact, fruit and vegetables have an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action and protect against cancer. On the contrary, foods of animal origin are linked to an increased risk of cancer onset and relapses. “Although further research is needed,” the scientists conclude, “the results of this study suggest that plant-based dietary patterns may be inversely associated with the risk of prostate cancer progression.”
